Obama never served so, I'm not sure why it's expected. Kinda like saying "semper fi" when you were never a Marine. Actually iirc, that's kinda frowned upon. You have to earn it, like a medal.
Obama also never demanded patriotism nor used soldiers as a political prop. Nor disrespected POWs and families of gold star recipients. To top it off, Obama didn’t use a particular general who is serving as the White House Chief of Staff’s dead son as tool.
