To Buy, Or Not To Buy.. Tiphia Sting

Tiphia sting is currently hitting around 160-180k on Sylph atm. Is it really worth that much? Not because of anything like "OMG THE NM IS BAD!", but because it actually is a worthwhile piece of gear?

Are there any cheaper, viable alternatives? What's the best Ammo slot piece you can use for SAM? I'm thinking RSE Satchet, being ELV I get a good ws piece. (STR+2)

Satchet is fine of you're not having ACC issues. However, since both are AMMO, macro swapping them won't take away your TP I believe. I've seen a few SAM TPing in a Smart Grenade also. Gotten from an easy quest in the past.

^This. Buy it if you've got gil to blow. If not, stick with the satchet or Smart Grenade. And no, swapping ammo doesn't reset TP. :3

Welp, if you can't manage or equip Black Tath or Bomblet (if this applies to any other jobs besides SAM), I'd say it's worthwhile. If either of those are an option, though, I'd just save up, personally, moreso with Bomblet than Tath since the latter is usually hella overpriced. Anyway, as ET said you can swap ammos without losing TP, so it's still a nice TP slot that can be changed if the -eva is ever something you want to tear off in a situation. There's never really going to be any point where you aren't going to need the ACC for TP unless you full-time sushi 24/7 or solely do events that involve weak shiz.

As SAM I don't have a Tathlum, so I've been using Tiphia for TP and Sachet for WS for like ..ever. Not much else to throw in there unless you want to deal with stat-bows, but then you can't swap ***. Plus someone will eventually ask you to pull something that will probably result in you dying or wanting to kill yourself. lol

Or Thfs that constantly swap bolts such as Sleep and Bloody when soloing.

I use the Smart Grenade(+5 Attack hidden effect) for my Sam and Mnk.... it's free and an easy quest, but thats just me.

Anyway, I never saw a Tiphia Sting worth the gil amount. If it is one of your last upgrades you need, go for it. I'd spend the 150k~200k elsewhere personally.

Buy Sting, use Elf satchet for WS.

Can't request Smart Grenade last time I checked and its been way too long to call GM for replacement , let alone I won't do that on this piece lol. P.S. however, even though its r/ex , you can not only toss it, but u can dbox it. So I been seeing if any of my mage friends want to do quest and dbox it to me ^^

Bring a mule to the past to do the quest, you can D.Box it.

To the OP Black Tathlum is best hands down, but it is not cheap.
Next would possibly be Ifrit's bow (maybe) but lol at getting that.
Next, Goblin Cracker, also not cheap.
Then Tiphia Sting, it is the best that is affordable.
If your not an elvaan I would suggest Lighting Bow +1 over tiphia, but if you are elvaan its not worth losing RSE ammo for WS.
Smart Gernade after that, not that great but free.
RSE ammo should be WS only since at the very least Gernade is free.

Do like I did. Give a thf friend a buttload of sleep bolts and have them sleep bolt it to death. That's how I got my sting after throwing mine by mistake while doing a manual WS. :)
