Hey,

I wanna buy a new laptop for gaming. Yes, yes, get a desktop for gaming blah blah. I travel a lot so a laptop suits my needs when I'm not home.

I am not a person who upgrades their system often (I am still using my 7year old laptop), so I want something that will last me a good 5 years at least. I dont mean playing the latest games at ultra settings for that period, but something that can hold itself for the next few years.

I live in the UK, and have tried purchasing from the US (Since its way cheaper there) from sites like Newegg, Amazon, XoticPC, etc, but they either dont deliver to UK, or their delivery charges are so high, I might as well buy it here. If anyone knows of a good US site that delivers to UK too, do let me know.

Anyway, I was looking at PCSpecialist and was thinking of getting a laptop from there. Has anyone here dealt with them before? They have good reviews and stuff by the looks of it.

The system specs are the following:

- GeForce 870M or 970M on a 17" screen. Would the 880M be any better than the 970M? They're practically the same price.
- i7 4710MQ CPU
- Either 8GB or 16GB RAM. I am unsure if 8GB will be enough or should I just bite the bullet and make it 16GB? I've been told right now 8GB is enough, but for how long? Also, are laptops generally upgradeable? Meaning, can I add more RAM at a later time?

So the total price of the system comes to approximately 1280 GBP (DAAAYUM!!) but I have the benefit of paying for it monthly.

Please let me know if its worth shelling out the cash, or if anyone knows any better, more affordable sites, let me know.

Thanks

8GB is plenty, and yes Laptop RAM can be easily upgraded, there is usually a very easy accessible cover on the base of the laptop which you unscrew to reveal the RAM.

The ram is upgradable (most current laptops cap at 8 though, or you may be screwed a bit and they'll put 2 4GB chips in, instead of 1 8, so you have to replace both if you want the 16, which can cost a bit).

Honestly, I'd expect it to last 3 years comfortably and then see about replacing it, 5 is a stretch. If you get them from a manufacturer or reseller you can usually get a 3 or 5y warranty though, with damage protection, you'd be paying out the nose, but you wouldn't have to worry about it.
