Update from REDDIT made me need to download only eight files. Looks like we have a winner here.

Edit: 60 people in Fenrir. This update is a fail to download. -___-;
I didn't have to DL any files at all with the patch from reddit.
I was all patched and in game in about a minute.

I didn't overwrite the top files, including the dll files. Not really a problem as it took like a minute to download them.

After doing this and logging in I noticed some configurations had gone, so I left the game and tried to launch the FFXIconfig and it doesn't work...

coincidence?? Or did something break cause I did this <.<

for me it is in steam folder>steamapps>common>FFXINA>SquareEnix

since the .rar unpacks into a folder that contains a FINAL FANTASY XI folder, I drag the .rar's folder to the square enix folder and overwrite.

Copy/paste whole thing into browser.
This worked for me. Use Chrome to download.

you can overwrite the vtab etc etc. they are not unique in my experience. The user folder is though but they are not in my distributions.

I started my download 6 hours ago and are still downloading from SE.
Hopefully i will have it wrapped up when i get home from work so so people in the states getting home later than me can have an alternative more.

I don't get why S.E. hasn't made this torrent based, when is soo clear their severs are not up for the load

My god, they make the update scan all the game files just to keep people from hammering the download server?

Edit: Just to let the OP know, 32bit OS can't unpack the file regardless of using the self extract EXE or WinRAR or even 7Zip due to lack of memory. It simply doesn't work.

Edit2: I used a W7 64bit PC (one without FFXI on it) just to unpack the file. There, it worked.

Thank You i was unaware of that, as I only have 64bit testing environment.
Most of my own crated programs are only 64bits and i don't really support 32bit platform in general but FFXI is another story, as its a pretty old game and probably run on alot of 32bit platform.

I'll fix it that ASAP

Just a quick heads up. the. rar file from mega has some "dirt files" in it.

the temp folder and use folder and sys folder should not be copied into your FF folder. its not bad just take a a tiny bit of wasted space. but if you are a clean bit freak like me you hate that..

IM currently Planning on a FFXI dirt cleaner program that will delete all files in the ffxi folder that are not relevant for ffxi.
e.g. if somebody by accident dumped a 1gib random file in on of the folders.
S.E file verification does not detect foreign files.

Sorry for the post spam. Here is and altarnative for the mega upload.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6va8E7NdnpWNHRvT0d5XzFVTVE/view?usp=sharing

195mb instead of 314mb
I shaved off 33% of the file size by using a more update compression. I don't get why people still use ancient and obsolete rar format.

this requires only 512mb to decompress. if there are still 32bit issues let me know.

I did the same, just used regular internet explorer to download it, saved 7 hours of downloading through POL. Thanks for putting this file online

I understood this to mean SE wants to keep control.

AAH i see. but they would still have the control (well as much as they can get) the torrent clinet woudl be built into pol just like Wow does it. and they could have people prefetch the update in the background 3 days prior so it woudl slowly tickle out instad of a hard NOW everyone update

There are many way smarter ways to roll out and update that the current way.

Could be because the meagupload has the user folder in it.
the files inside get what appears to be a random name and contains user specific data..
If your user file had the same random dat it would be over written by the user info from the uploader.
however others might be unaffected since their user file random name is different.

The guy who uploaded the Megaupload one was not 100% sure of what he was doing. and he might actually put himself in jepordy of getting his account info stolen ( pure speculations on my )

Seha, try moving the ToolsUS folder elsewhere. (I am assuming you're using the EU client)

If you're using the US client, there's no need for having ToolsEU or Tools (Japan) folders. Same as ToolsEU and ToolsUS don't belong on a Japanese FFXI install.

you are generally correct but the current updates of ffxi installed all 3 version. i installed the us version of audolin and after updated from Se i got all 3 folders.
Previously i only had the EU folder ( eu install with eu accout) or UE and US ( US install with EU account). but they changed that behavior
